The acute depression may be gone, but five years later Cat Blackburn still has that horrible ache in her heart for her little girl. Cat will never forget losing Lauren, and she may never forgive Jack for not being there when she needed him most.
When their marriage fell apart, Jack Davenport was furious, heartbroken, and at least a little relieved. His job working with Cat’s mother was always a huge obstacle in their marriage, but when they lost their daughter she completely shut down and shut him out.
Cat is going to hate him for what he has done, but under Melinda’s orders, Jack abducts his ex-wife, and stows her in Eagle’s Way until the threats to her life have been eliminated. At first Cat is furious with Jack, but she is also secretly a little thrilled, and that makes her even madder…at herself. Having Cat in his life again has Jack reevaluating everything about his past and his future, and he comes to some painful and enlightening realizations. Jack has always been the man who could make her blood sing and time and distance has not changed that, but as things stand there is no way Cat will put her heart on the line for him again.
It is easy to understand how Jack’s job could tear a marriage apart, especially when he is working for his mother-in-law, but there are always two sides to any conflict. Cat needed someone to blame for her pain, and Jack was an easy target. This author has a way of touching something soul deep in each of her characters, and bringing that feeling to life with every word. Jack and Cat are two lucky people to have found themselves in Eternity Springs, and under the watchful eye and loving wing of its resident angel Celeste.
