Mrs. Julia Bancroft is a midwife, a healer, and a gentle lady. She also has a secret, one that puts anyone in danger who is around her.
Alexander David Randall is a Major in the army but knows the time has come for him to sell his commission. When he is ordered to find a wife to carry on his name, the first woman he thinks of is Julia.
Julia thought she would be safe hiding from the men sent to hunt her down. When she is kidnapped and abused, she assumes her fate is death until Alex comes to the rescue. Hearing who she used to be married to has him cursing for he knows firsthand how brutal her deceased husband was. He promises to protect her from those who wish her harm and he hopes that his gentle touch and soothing nature will help heal the mental scars her wicked husband left her with.
Ms. Putney has written a love story that is aggressive and gentle, tranquil and loud, and full of adventure and courage. Never Less than a Lady shows how much strife, abuse, neglect, and hate Julia goes through at the hands of her vicious first husband and yet she still has the valor and strength of ten men. I felt that Alex’s patience, understanding, and calming nature really meshed with what Julia needed in the story. This tale is beautifully written. I am very glad I got the chance to read this novel and I can guarantee you will be equally satisfied in reading this heroic tale of love the second time around.
