Ashley is a historic preservationist in Wilmington, North Carolina. She is in the process of getting divorced and engaged to Jon, her partner. She is very close to her Aunt Ruby and Ruby’s husband, Binky.
Binky is a writer and professor emeritus of history. He has just had a book published and is signing copies at a local store. His research is much more important than even he knows.
When a real estate investor is murdered at a local book signing, Ashley has no idea it is tied into her latest project. She and her partner are restoring the home of a Civil War blockade runner named Pettigrew. Someone is willing to kill to find out Captain Pettigrew’s secrets.
The characters and setting of this novel really make the story. The author has a gift for characterization, and the reader will get to know each one. The plot line is interesting and easy to follow. The main characters’ professions are interesting and enhance the plot. I enjoyed my trip to Wilmington and hope to return soon.
