MENDING SHATTERED SOULS
Book 4: Kaldor Saga
Erotic Romance, Alternative (M/M or F/F), Fantasy
Rating: 5 Cups
Pierre is a Sidhe with a horrible problem; he has a mental illness that affects the Sidhe called DSS that makes him do terrible things completely against his true nature. He has murdered several people because of the illness and does not think he is redeemable, though in spite of it all he still has hope.
X has no memory of his past. He has been captured and tortured by men who want him for nothing other than his power. When he finally does escape, he will do anything to stay free.
Jean Luc is Pierre’s brother, and he also suffers from DSS.
Min is Jean Luc’s lover.
When Jean Luc breaks out his lover, Min, and X from a cryofacility where they have been held, he has no idea of the can of worms he is about to open, or maybe he does. Unfortunately, what happiness he may have been able to have is destroyed by his DSS when he begins fighting with Min. His own Imperials take him over and send him back to a Sidhe mental facility that is little more than a house of horrors. While Min and X try to stop them, they are quickly immobilized. At this point it becomes a fight to find Jean Luc and get him out for both Min and X. However, X does not realize it, but he is about to find something very precious, his mate. Unfortunately, his mate, Pierre, also suffers from DSS. Still he has found him, and he has some hope that somehow he will be able to help his fragile lover. While the two become close quickly, this does not spell true happiness for the couple because the DSS is always right there on the edge of it all waiting to swallow Pierre. As if that were not bad enough, Jean Luc is also suffering from it, and keeping the two brothers apart takes everything that X and Min have so they do not draw attention to themselves or their location. Fate steps in with the entry of six strangers, at least they are strangers to X. Will these others be able to help, or are they only there to make the situation worse?
Wow, talk about explosive! I was on the edge of my seat through this entire book. I could not put it down in fact until I had read the last page and that meant staying up all night to find out what happened. All the books in the Kaldor Saga are excellent, but Ms. Hyacinth outdid herself with this one. Not only did she further the storyline in a direction that takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and what ifs, but she did so in such a way that the the reader has no idea what is going to happen until it actually occurs. One of my favorite themes in this story was how love was able to help with the mental affliction that Pierre and his brother Jean Luc suffer from. Mental illness is a difficult subject to tackle in non-fiction, let alone fiction, and anyone that has known a loved one who has suffered from it knows what I mean. However, the author did so with style, sensitivity, and true caring, and I think her handling of it enhanced the storyline tremendously. I encourage anyone who loves fantasy and m/m romance to pick up copies of this and the other outstanding books in the Kaldor Saga. They will keep you on the edge of your seat, as well as, satisfying your yen for a superb love story!
