Sophie Garou is not your normal CPA; she is a werewolf and has to drink wolfsbane tea to keep her beast at bay. She is trying to have as ordinary life as possible, which is hard considering all that is going on around her.
Mark Sydney is the CEO of Southeast Airlines and is Sophie’s biggest client. Even though it is a big no-no in the business world, Sophie and Mark have gone from being just accountant and client to lovers.
Her life should be on track, but it seems her past is ready to come back to haunt her. Sophie’s father, who dumped her and her mother when she was just a child, has come back. He wants to reconnect and become close. Her best friend Lindsey is dating Tom, a very sexy, very charming werewolf to whom Sophie finds herself extremely attracted. To top it off, her father is accused of a crime that has death by werewolf standards as punishment, and one of the people Sophie trusts is not who she thinks and is out to control her body and soul.
Leader of the Pack is the third installment in the Tales of an Urban Werewolf series and a great read. Ms. MacInerney takes a werewolf tale and twists it to give it a unique spin with tons of extras: the politics of being in a werewolf society, the role an alpha plays and how he chooses his mate, a gathering of different werewolf packs for treaties, and everyday “human” things. While the novel was a wonderful read, there were parts that mention past stories that might confuse a reader if they have not read the first two books. I love how sexy Tom comes across, the struggle he and Sophie have when it comes to their attraction for each other, and how she tries to help her father even though he abandoned her as a child. This is a very balanced book of sensuality, action, adventure, mystery, and smooth scenes that will have you wanting to see how this story ends and hoping that Sophie will finally get her happily ever after.
