Living under the radar is a necessity for someone like Sam Mayne, and he knows every day could be his last. Crossing the mob is not the best way to live a long and happy life, but Sam is getting pretty tired of always watching his back.
When he left home at 18 Jay Colby was more than ready to set out on his own. Since then he has had a string of lovers, some good, some pretty horrible, but nothing lasting.
The last thing Sam needs is to hook up with someone like Jay, especially in a small backwater town like Coldcreek, but Jay is much too sexy to pass up. Jay knows the score, at least he thinks he does, but Sam confounds him at every turn. Sam has every reason to send Jay packing, and yet he finds himself holding onto something he in no way deserves. With the mob closing in, the tension in Sam nears the breaking point, and the last thing he could bear is to have Jay caught in the cross fire.
With the mob getting closer and closer to Sam and Jay the building pressure becomes a tangible force. Their lovemaking has an almost desperate feel, almost like they have to get it all in before something horrible happens. I love how Sam and Jay are completely different on the surface, but underneath they share much more than just sexual attraction. They complement each other intimately as well as personally, and it makes their story very attractive for the reader.
