LAST NIGHT’S SCANDAL
Avon Books, an imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers
Rating: 3 Cups
Ever since she was a young girl, Olivia Wingate-Carsington knew that she was not like other girls her age. Instead of tea parties and frilly dresses, she wanted adventures all her own.
Peregrine Dalmay, Earl of Lisle, is Olivia’s best friend and knows what is truest in her heart. After returning from Egypt his family is determined to send him on a fool’s errand and will stoop to anything to get their way.
When Olivia hears that Lisle’s family is trying to get him to go to a haunted castle in Scotland, she comes up with a scheme that will allow her some freedom. But all Peregrine wants is to return to Egypt and away from the oh-so tempting Olivia and her fascinating bosoms. Unable to get away from Olivia and her scheming, Lisle finds himself travelling with his best friend-suddenly turned woman while thoughts of seduction dance through his mind. Keeping his hands to himself is a hard enough task to deal with but they now have someone trying to get them to leave the castle and Lisle and Olivia are determined to figure out why.
Last Night’s Scandal is an interesting read, mixing humor, sexiness, hauntings, intrigue, and eclectic family members together within the pages. Ms. Chase shows us how strong and determined Olivia is, giving her a characteristic of manipulating those around her. While this could certainly turn the reader against the character, there is something about Olivia that has us enjoying all of her antics. Peregrine is sort of a stuffed-shirt in comparison to his best friend, which has these two characters fitting together like two pieces of a puzzle. This is a nice novel that you will enjoy reading.
