Sheridan Rosslare has lived through the horror no mother should face, the loss of her son. During the year since Charlie’s tragic death, she has only barely survived. Once a woman who had songs flow from her like water, she is unable to use her music to help herself heal.
Gavin Dawson is called in by Charlie’s girlfriend, Nell, to help solve the mystery of Charlie’s death. Gavin is a private investigator who has a special tie to Hubbard’s Point and Sheridan. He has loved Sheridan for years, but a long time ago, he made mistakes. Will he be able to regain her love and find her son’s killer?
Nell Kilvert and Charlie Rosslare have been sweethearts for years. They had dreamed together and made plans for their future. When Charlie’s body is discovered in a New York City park shortly after starting his freshman year at NYU, Nell asks the questions Sheridan cannot. Bringing Gavin back to Hubbard’s Point opens unhealed wounds that Sheridan is not ready to deal with. It will take all these people have in order to deal with the upcoming storm of lies and betrayals.
Last Kiss is a heart-wrenching novel. The pain these characters are forced to endure becomes a character in itself. The healing process they go through makes them feel so real to the reader. Magic dances throughout the story from beginning to end. There is such a strong spiritual connection between the people of Hubbard’s Point and the water they love so dearly, a connection I can truly relate to. Ms. Rice brings the reader right into the world she has created, which is one reason I have been a fan of her work for a few years. When you pick up this book, buy a box of tissues, too. From the first page until the last, you will need them.
