Very few people have come as up close and personal with their demons as McKenna Sloan. She met hers at sixteen, and for eight long years has been looking over her shoulder every single one of those days.
Billionaire businessman Lucas Kane has very little time in his day to worry about anything other than keeping his father’s company one of the top rated in the world. He took over when he would have rather been serving his country, but his expertise as a undercover operative gave him skills he is going to be glad he has.
Losing her family to a madman put McKenna’s life in a whole new perspective, and now working informally with Last Chance Rescue helps her alleviate some of the guilt of that horrendous day. She invited a vicious killer into their lives, and from that day on hers has been one of nightmares and subterfuge. She was warned very early on that any relationships she made would be met with disaster, but meeting Lucas has brought a whole new facet to her life. Lucas was rescued by this tiny ethereal woman, and since has spent every waking moment trying to find a way to keep her in his life. However, her past is threatening to erupt in the most violent and sickening manner, and they are about to be caught in the cross-fire.
It would be nice to know that there are companies out there like LCR, but it makes your skin crawl to think of why they exist, and the evil in this book is their reason for being. For one man to reign terror on so many young women, and get away with it so easily, really strikes at the heart of the reader. McKenna is his obsession, and her character is every ounce what a spitfire heroine should be. Lucas wants so badly to be her knight in shining armor, and he completely enamors the reader with his ability as well as his failure to do so.
