Rona Shively is a private detective who keeps to herself. After learning her father has taken a turn with his Alzheimer’s, she packs and heads home. She hopes he will still be alive when she arrives.
Garrett Shaw is retired military, who was injured in the line of duty and received an honorable discharge. His unusual encounter with Rona brings them together.
After hearing about her dad, Rona hates the thought of having to run into her mother when she arrives at the hospital to see her dad. Learning her mother had messed around on her dad, had been a low blow. Her mother informs her that Father Todd would like to speak to her. It appears he has been threatened, his car vandalized and his house almost set on fire. Rona wonders could someone be holding a grudge against him. While trying to find the culprit, she meets Garrett, who strikes a nice pose, in her book. After Rona and Garrett become a little closer, Rona discovers Father Todd is still being harassed. Can she find the reason for the threats behind Father Todd or will someone permanently make sure she stops snooping?
Keeping the Faith is a refreshing read. I have to admit Rona has guts. She does not mind speaking out on anything when it comes to speaking her mind. When she checked into the hotel and never unpacked, it reminded me of the way I travel. I almost broke into tears with her visit to her mom, and the mention of the pot roast, and staying for dinner. I really like Garrett. Rebecca Benston paints Rona as a tough cookie, but on the inside she gives her a tender and caring heart. This is one action packed read that will take the reader on a whirlwind ride.
