IN LOVE AND IN EXILE
Rating: 1 Cup
Louise De Merode is a Belgian countess and divorcee who lives in Paris. Her lover is a liberal Italian count.
Emmanuel Dal Pozzo della Cisterna is a very liberal nobleman who is dedicated to his cause and the woman he loves.
Italy was a chaotic place in post Napoleonic Europe and was prime for revolution. This is a story of two people who involved themselves in the struggle.
This story was nearly impossible for me to make any sense of. A great part of it was in Italian, which I do not read, and this alternated with what I can only deduce is a very poor attempt at translation. The English text made little sense. Pronouns were incorrect and the grammar was terrible. I also was puzzled as to where Louise got a car in 1820’s Europe. I love this time period and have read little of Italy of that time, so I really looked forward to this story and hope to someday read a better translation not interlaced with a language that I do not understand.
