IF YOU HEAR HER
The Ash Trilogy, Book 1
Ballantine Books, an imprint of Random House Inc.
Rating: 5 Cups
Lena Riddle might not have her sight, but she relies upon her other senses and her trusty dog, Puck, to live her life. When she hears a terrorized scream in the dead of night, Lena knows something bad has happened, but the local law enforcement is not willing to investigate her claim.
Ezra King trusted the wrong woman and in doing so he lost trust in love and might have put up his gun and badge for good. But when he overhears Lena’s troubles and realizes some of the officers are not taking her seriously, his old detective skills perk up and he decides to offer his help.
Ash, Kentucky is a quiet town where everyone knows everyone else’s business. But someone evil is kidnapping, raping and torturing young women, and he will stop at nothing to get the succulent young lovelies that quench his lust. When one of his victims almost gets away, he thinks he has control of the situation until whispers abound about Lena hearing screams in the night. Now the predator has found a new target in Lena, and what the predator wants…the predator gets.
From the first bone-chilling page until the last, Shiloh Walker had me hooked. The unbelievable evil radiating off of the mysterious killer had chills racing up my arms. Lena and Ezra are extremely strong characters who are portrayed in bold colors and practically jump off the pages they seem so alive. Add in the everyday twists and turns of living in a small community and you will feel as if you are standing inside the Nook Café, listening to the gossip and rumors fly. If You Hear Her has many different intertwining characters that will be featured in the second and third installments of the Ash Trilogy and I cannot wait to read more of this terrifying series.
