On some nights it is hard for Dr. Chris Kearney to remember why he became an ER surgeon. The hours are endless, the patients non-stop, and he can barely recall the last time he had a sex life.
Getting drug dealers and killers off the street is what makes the job all worth it for Det. Drew Hayden. His hours suck and job is dangerous, but at the end of the day he can actually feel like he is making a difference.
After patching up one more in a long line of drug related casualties Chris is ready for a break, but after speaking with the detective on the case, he has other thoughts running through his head. Their chance encounter shoots off sparks, but with their insane schedules time together is in short supply. Drew’s job is dangerous and deadly, Chris’ slightly less so, yet they both get a feel for what it could be like to lose the other. The bond they form may be the real-deal, but staying alive to find out seems to be harder than they could have anticipated.
I really love when you get two main characters so evenly matched and so in sync with each other. Drew and Chris are honest, intelligent, and extremely hard working men who have no problem laying it all on the line. Their love affair is intense without being over the top graphic, and the work they put into their relationship actually feels like the real thing. A.R. Moler is an author whose work I will readily recommend and cannot wait to read more of.
