HOT CITY NIGHTS
St. Martin’s Griffin
Rating: 3 Cups
It could just be a case of cold feet, but Sophie Steele feels a shiver of unease while dealing with her wedding plans. It is not Tai, as she loves him more than anything; it is his lifestyle that has her itching for a change.
The Pet of the Month award is coming up, and best friends Bella Steele and Maya Lin are in a head to head competition. The question is, will their friendship survive, no matter who wins or loses?
Beautiful clothes, beautiful people, and the most glamorous hotels in the country have Sophie craving a little normalcy in her life, and she has no idea how to explain these feelings to Tai. While Sophie is contemplating a career change, Maya and Bella are navigating a minefield of hurt feelings and jealousy. Besides Pet of the Month, Maya has a need that only a certain type of man can fill, and Bella has her sights set on a star, but neither is prepared for the toll this will take on their friendship. All three women are in for major changes in their lives, and it will take courage, humility, and lots of tears before anything is resolved.
The glamorous life does not seem so hot when you see it tear apart the best of friends, and it is plain to see that Sophie, Bella, and Maya have all fallen into this trap. I find it disheartening how they are becoming desensitized to the world around them, and it is shows up in the way they treat the ones they love the most. The way Sophie is sneaking around behind Tai’s back, while Bella takes out her frustrations with Maya is catty and unattractive. On the surface their lives may look sexy and fun, but dig a little deeper and you will find more than a little sadness and desperation.
