Abigail Benton has always had life easy: the best schools, the best colleges, followed by a good job. Until her now ex-boyfriend stole her keys and then stole money from her employers. Judged as an accessory, she must do community service at local community centre helping with the kids’ after school club.
Eli is homeless and enjoys keeping things clean around the community centre, where he also helps with the kids when they are short handed.
When Abigail turns up at the community center, she soon starts getting herself in trouble and it always seems to be Eli who saves her. Could she really be falling for the homeless guy like everyone thinks?
Abigail is sometimes a bit too naive at first, but she soon learns just how dangerous it can be in the middle of a two rival gangs. Eli seems to know a lot for a homeless guy or is it just a coincidence that he is always there when she needs saving? Holding out for a hero is a heartwarming story showing that not only are there good people in this world but that the kids everyone has given up on can also be good if given a chance.
