Cody is a bounty hunter and the fact that she is a woman has never prevented her from bringing in the meanest and most vicious bail jumpers in the Fort Worth area. Having a distant and alcoholic mother who has been unable to show her any affection, she shies away from relationships. She is resigned to the fact that anyone important to her will leave, either mentally or physically. Fortunately, she is not tempted to change her mind until Josh Pierce comes along.
Josh, a former cop turned bounty hunter, is not looking for any kind of entanglement. No woman lasts more than a month with him and he believes Cody will be no different, once he catches her. No woman has ever resisted him for long or forced him to go to any kind of effort to seduce her. He thinks a temporary partnership with Cody while they capture a skip with a high bail should enable him to get her out of his system for good.
Two commitment phobic bounty hunters in search of a fugitive find that they are far more than just physically attracted to each other, but do not know what to do about it. Further complications arise when their assignment goes radically wrong.
I really loved this book. There is action throughout the story, never a slow part. The dialogue is snappy. Cody is wonderfully sarcastic. The two main characters are extremely likeable, Cody has been battered by life, and Josh hurt by an incident in his past. The author tells a wonderful story of two damaged people who find each other, but with suspense and humor, not to mention a lot of hot love scenes. This is a great story.
