With an easy smile and quick wit Maxwell Clark has always been able to deflect attention away from his deeper emotions. No one needs to see the darkness that lurks beneath the surface, and he does everything he can to bury the pain.

A university professor and a professional Dom, Daniel Germain knows what it means to lead and teach. He keeps to a strict protocol for both careers, and breaking his rules is never something he takes lightly.

The day Daniel walks into his bar is the beginning of t

he end for Clark. At the time, Daniel is well aware of Clark’s reputation as a Dom for the club Break, and for him that means no future, but Clark is not so easily dissuaded. Years of tightly controlled emotions and heartrending memories are laid bare between these two men, and what ensues scares them both. Clark lost a lover once, and it nearly crushed him, but to lose Daniel would be a torture worse than death.

Over time I have read many, many BDSM stories, and when they are this good it always strikes me with awe at the exquisitely beautiful and terrifyingly emotional baring of the character’s souls. These two authors dig deep into the psyches of Clark and Daniel, and for the reader that can only mean a pure and intense connection. I have to keep reminding myself that these men are fictional characters, because it is so easy to feel their pain. The physicality of their relationship is impassioned and every touch profound and I can only hope this is the first of many endeavors for Raine and Wyre.
