The Special Trials Unit is as far from a nine-to-five as you can get, and DA Rachel Knight loves every minute of it. She works her tail off every day, and would not want it any other way.
The challenge of putting killers behind bars is a high like nothing else for Detective Bailey Keller. Her best friends, Rachel and Toni, have the same drive and work ethic, so it is no wonder they all get along so well.
There is no way Rachel will believe that her good friend and coworker Jake is capable of a murder/suicide, and she makes it her mission to find the truth. With the FBI on the case, Rachel enlists her best friends to help her do a little undercover digging. The rape of a teenage girl must be her priority, however, and as the case unfolds Rachel is stunned by what she finds. It is not long before Rachel is dodging bullets, and it becomes quite evident that it is more than just her job on the line.
Marcia Clark may have been a world class deputy district attorney, but she can now claim to have mastered the art of writing. Her characters are the perfect combination of fierce intelligence, unwavering loyalty and kickass attitude without the male bashing that you usually see in strong female characters. I feel that Rachel's vulnerabilities make her more accessible to the reader, and would love to see more of her revealed in the future. This is one author who will definitely go the distance, and I will be eagerly waiting to see what comes next.
