The longer she works on her doctoral thesis the more stressed Dulcie Schwartz becomes. Her advisor is getting stranger by the day, her thesis is coming apart at the seams, and her friends are so busy she never has anyone to talk to.

It is not easy keeping Dulcie out of trouble, but Mr. Grey does the best he can. He tries to keep her spirits up, and warn her of impending danger, but that is no easy task, especially for a ghostly cat.

Dulcie has really never been in a situation quite like this, and it is shredding all of her tenuous nerves. It has been an avalanche of events starting with the murder of a fellow grad student, and now she does not know where to turn. Her thesis is going down the toilet, her boyfriend is keeping secrets, and her beloved Mr. Grey only appears in tiny flashes. Dulcie fights to keep it together as she stumbles upon mystery after mystery, involving murder, theft, and unlikely romances.

Throughout this entire book I have had this image of Dulcie as a frumpy, frizzy haired brainiac in Birkenstocks, and the only thing she is missing is thick tortoise shell glasses. Seriously, the girl talks to a dead cat, and is completely hung up on some obscure novel written hundreds of years ago that nobody but her has ever heard of or cares about. In my opinion she is much better suited as the quirky, if not a little strange, side kick to a main character. Her bouts of tears and total lack of focus makes her character seem weak willed and borderline neurotic, and for this reader she made the story a struggle to finish.
