GALLANT OFFICER, FORBIDDEN LADY
December 2009/November 2009
Harlequin Enterprises Limited
Rating: 5 Cups
Jack Vernon has not led an easy life. Raised with a mother who is shunned by polite society for being a mistress, he later was in a war that haunts him still.
Ariana Blane is an up and coming young actress known for both her beauty and her talent on stage. While her mother would like nothing more than for her to take an influential lover, she cannot stand the thought of trading her flesh for trinkets and money.
When Jack meets Ariana he is stunned by her beauty but also by her description of his paintings. Later he is hired to do a portrait and cannot believe his good fortune until he learns that the benefactor who is paying him is none other than one of his mortal enemies. Ariana is stunned when she realizes the impressionable gentleman she met at the art gallery is the artist who will be in close quarters with her for hours on end. But while their hearts cry out for them to fall in love, others will stand in their way.
Gallant Officer, Forbidden Lady is so much more than just a historical romance. To see the struggles that Jack faces with flashbacks is heartbreaking enough. Then to see how vapid his mother is along with how selfish and spoiled both his and Ariana’s mother is with their futures just made me want to scream. Add the thrill of adventure, the chills of wartime, a vile enemy who expects to get everything he demands, and a secondary love story and this is a fitting book that you will fall in love with!
