Valerie is starting her life over after the death of her husband in the line of duty. Her son’s accidental shooting brings all of the horror of that time back, but also introduces her to Officer Dylan Graves. For the first time in three years, Val feels that she might be able to love again.
Dylan is just going through the motions in his life. The former bad boy turned cop was unable to save his brother from a senseless death, so he attempts to help others at the local youth center. He is, however, unwilling to let anyone get too close, until he meets Valerie Turturro.
A young police widow tries to make a new life for herself and her son in a new town. Her fledgling business and her son’s recovery from a serious gun accident add to her stress, but worst of all are her growing feelings for a man who might never return them.
Fortune’s Fool is a wonderful contemporary romance combining well-developed characters with a compelling story line. Dylan and Valerie are very real multilayered characters that the reader will like and identify with immediately. The supporting characters are equally well drawn. Emilia is an especially good character that I would like to see more of.
