Jessica is a horse trainer. She is young and quite attractive, but tough, and has a great sense of humor. Her three older brothers both protected her and made her a determined person.
Michael is the owner of the ranch and a former police detective. The death of his fiancée turned him away from law enforcement and made him pour everything he had into the ranch. It is now a huge success.
A serial killer forces Michael out of retirement and back into his old job as a detective. He hires a new trainer to take his place and is disconcerted to find that she is a woman, a woman who fits the profile of the killer’s victims. Jess refuses to leave, and Michael soon finds that she is a treasure both in and out of the stable. Inevitably, the killer focuses on her, and Michael has to find the killer before he gets to Jess.
Fatal Embrace is a really great romantic suspense novel from the first page until the last. Both the love story and the murder mystery had me on the edge of my seat. I loved Jess and Michael grew on me despite his rather schizophrenic behavior towards her. The setting of a remote horse ranch fit the plotline perfectly and the author really does a great job of building the suspense to a spectacular conclusion. I never guessed the identity of the murderer and was surprised at the ending.
