Monique is a fairy on the run. Her brother is determined to marry her off to an odious and powerful fairy. She is not particularly powerful, but beautiful and stubborn and determined to hide in the human world.
Daniel Elliot is a successful businessman but has not been as successful in love. He is trying to get over the woman who loved him, left him, and took a family heirloom with her when she disappeared.
Monique will do anything to stay in the human realm away from the control freak her brother wants her to marry. She bluffs her way into a job as assistant to Daniel, and finds herself extremely attracted to him. For some reason, he is immune to her powers, making him even more attractive to her. She is determined to be professional, but needs to hide who she is for both his and her safety.
I really enjoyed this story. Monique is a bit out of her element in the business world, but determined to succeed and not let Daniel down. Her brother and his partner are determined to hunt her down and make her marry the detestable and treasonous, Eero, but she has found a friend in Billy, an exiled fairy, and is becoming more and more comfortable in the human world. The subplot of the planned coup and her brother’s part in it is worthy of a book of its own and enhances this story extremely well. I loved the author’s descriptions of both the human world and the fairy world, and Daniel will give the reader some excellent surprises.
