DRACULA MY LOVE: THE SECRET JOURNALS OF MINA HARKER
Rating: 4 Cups
Mina is young, beautiful, and in love with Jonathan. She has led a rather sheltered life.
Jonathan is an intelligent and ambitious lawyer. He loves Mina and is determined to advance his career.
Dracula is an ancient vampire. Mesmerizing and handsome, he is neither all good nor all evil, despite what some people think.
Told from the viewpoint of Mina, Jonathan Harker's intended and later wife, this tale gives the reader a different view of Dracula and his story. She tells the reader of not the monster, but the man. This is an interesting take on the classic story. Mina's character was never fully developed in Bram Stoker's story and she becomes a much more complete person here. The first person telling of the story works very well here and her relationship with the vampire paints a very different picture of the man/monster. The tale is sensual and Mina is torn between her fine upstanding Jonathan and her sexy and forbidden Nicolae. This retelling is a cut above the usual in this genre.
