Risa Jones refuses to allow anyone to control her life and that includes those nearest to her. Madeline Hunter wants her to play with the big guys while her aunt, Riley Jenson wants her to stay as far away as possible.
Azriel is a reaper who is searching for Risa’s father. He is linked to Risa’s chi and when she calls, he comes…most of the time.
Everyone’s agenda for Risa is the same, get her father close to her so they can either catch him or kill him. But Risa does not want to play games with her own life and she wants to do things Risa style. Azriel is tired of watching Risa as she forms an attachment to her lover, Lucian who he does not quite trust. As Risa struggles to juggle all of the issues that are on her plate, she will have to learn to trust Azriel or take the chance at losing her life.
I have always loved Keri Arthur’s work and Darkness Rising just helps to prove my point at how talented this author is. If you loved her Riley Jenson series, you will fall hard for her Dark Angels series. The interaction between Risa and Azriel is so tension filled and yet hilarious as we see the craving the reaper has for her but she is completely blind to the fact. Add in the mystery of whether she can trust those closest to her and you cannot help but fall for this novel. I did not read the first book in this series but you can bet that I will be picking it up and devouring it just as I devoured this one.
