Sadie Callaghan is the granddaughter of the local “witch” and a bit of an outcast in her little Florida town. Since her grandmother’s death, she has taken on the family folk healing business. She keeps mostly to herself.
Walt Malone is the Sheriff of the little town. Vandalism at a local church brings him to Sadie’s door. He knows he should not have a personal relationship with a suspect/victim, but cannot help himself.
Sadie has always been a bit different from the other people in her town. They come to her for folk medicine but will not acknowledge her on the street and talk about her behind their hands. That is bad enough, but when she is the target of a witch hater, getting threatening letters and having damage done to her property, she cannot even get the local police to help her. That is until she goes directly to the top, the Sheriff himself. It will be a task for even Sheriff Malone to keep her safe.
This is a good story with a likable heroine and a compelling hero. I do not understand why Sadie stayed in such an unfriendly place, but from the description of her home, she obviously makes a very good living. I liked her friend, Faith, and would have liked the character to have been more developed. The plot is very suspenseful and the love scenes were well written, but other aspects of the plot could be inconsistent. Overall, this is an enjoyable romantic suspense tale.
