Amanda Brighton is a research scientist in her father’s pharmaceutical company, now hers. She is bright and beautiful, but has been too busy studying and then working to have much of a social life.
Chase Collins is a bit of a playboy and has just ended a toxic relationship. He is very handsome and runs the family citrus business. Serious relationships are not in his plans, and he doubts he will find a woman to spend the rest of his life with.
Amanda is trying to cope with the death of her father when she literally bumps into Chase at a friend’s wedding. The attraction is instant and very strong. This is unsettling for both of them, but Amanda finds herself leaning on Chase when it is found that her father was murdered and that the killer may be after her also. Chase has problems of his own aside from reluctance to commit, but he cannot stay away from Amanda and is determined to keep her safe.
This is an entertaining and suspenseful tale. The characters are realistic and charismatic and the setting fits in well with the story. Amanda is immediately likeable, but Chance is a bit arrogant and takes a while to grow on you. There are some plot inconsistencies and the romance is a bit melodramatic, but the novel is hard to put down.
