Caren is a single divorced mother of one who has just recently lost her beloved daughter to her ex-husband’s big mouth. She is lonely and just wants to find a way to survive losing her daughter.
J.R. is also single and divorced. He lost his daughter to leukemia.
When Caren goes to a meeting for grieving parents, she is shamed when she hears the man sitting in front of her talking about how he feels since his daughter died of leukemia. She leaves in a rush and goes to a local restaurant where she used to take her daughter. A few drinks later, J.R. shows up, hits on her, and it is lust at first sight. The sex is so phenomenal that J.R. ends up inviting Caren to watch him at a local rodeo the next day. What starts out as just a way to make it through the night begins to become something more for both of them. However, Caren is very insecure due to the fact that she had her daughter when she was fifteen, and she did some things when she was married that she is not proud of. When J.R. takes her to meet his friends, and the woman who leads the grieving parents group verbally attacks them, Caren becomes embarrassed and runs, literally. Will J. R. be able to find her and convince her that he wants her in his life?
I truly enjoyed reading this story. After all who has not done something they are not particularly proud of? I loved how Ms. Blaise showed the redeeming qualities of love in this story, and of course the fact it was coupled with scorching sex did not hurt either. Caren and J.R. are very easy to relate to as people, and I really liked how J. R. really did not care about Caren’s past and only felt compassion for her and what she had to go through. The ending was everything I could have hoped for as well, making this a truly wonderful story for this reader. If you have never read this author before, then I highly recommend her Cave Creek stories, they rock!
