Callie is a twenty something restaurant manager. She was on her way to becoming a singer when tragedy changed her life, and she ran away. The Holiday House Hotel in the Outer Banks is her refuge.
A killer is determined to hide his identity and his nefarious acts from the management of the hotel. Callie is too suspicious and looking into things she should not be and must be stopped.
Callie has noticed that things are not all as they should be at Holiday House and some strange memos left by her predecessor have only increased her suspicions. Theft, a permanently drug-addled executive chef, and a murder attempt on herself have made her even more determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. Things come to a head as a hurricane bears down on the Outer Banks and Callie is stranded with her entire list of suspects.
This book has a bit of a slow start. The author hints frequently and frustratingly about Callie’s past and really does not get started with the mystery at hand for a few chapters. But, once Callie gets her teeth into the problems at the hotel, things heat up quickly, and I was unable to put the book down. The characters are wonderfully quirky and the setting isolates all of the suspects for maximum suspense. Callie is a logical and observant person who finds herself in the middle of a murder, and due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, has to find the killer before he finds her.
