This once in a lifetime trip to Paris is more than a sight-seeing mission for Kari. It is her chance to do something daring, away from the condemnation and censure of her father.
It is a little terrifying for Maynard that his feelings for this woman are so intense in such a short time, even more so because she is far too innocent for the likes of him.
If he tries any type of bossiness, Kari swears she is gone for good. She refuses to fall into the same trap as her mother, even if the sex with Maynard is beyond description. Whatever is going on in Kari's head has Maynard very worried that it is going to kill their relationship. His heart is already vested, but if she cannot open up, he will have to walk away no matter how much it will hurt.
Whew! Can anyone say "therapy please" In my opinion Kari is an absolute mess whose daddy issues are so severe they infringe on the most intimate of moments. There is no doubt that Maynard must have the patience of a saint to be able to deal with Kari's swinging emotions and deep seated fears. Beyond this, the love scenes are incredible and Maynard's willingness to keep trying really pulls this story together.
