A woman on the run from an abusive husband, Ivy Peterman and her two children, Bethany and Bobby, find themselves in the small town of New Bern, Connecticut. It seems like a good place to start their lives over. With the help of the local women’s shelter and the people associated with it, Ivy begins to feel accepted for the first time in her life. Maybe this will help her learn to trust people and let them into her life.
Evelyn Dixon is the owner of Cobbled Court Quilt Shop, located in New Bern. She has a heart as big as the Texas sky and a life filled to overflowing with blessings. When her friend, Mary Dell, decides to host her television program at Evelyn’s store, Evelyn’s life is turned upside down and inside out. Luckily, she has her girlfriends to pull her through.
Ivy arrives in New Bern with very little. She has had a rough life and finds it hard to let people get too close. Working at the quilt shop gives Ivy an income, but she is afraid of people discovering her secrets. When trouble comes calling, she finds she has more friends than she ever dreamed of having. These women bond together and show her just what happens when you mess with one of their own. In the process, Ivy discovers her secrets are not as bad as she thought and facing the truth might help her heal the scars from the past.
This tale truly shows what female friendships are about. These ladies are gritty and tough, yet soft-hearted and tender. When hard hitting honesty is balanced with love and compassion, it makes the bond of friendship stronger. Ivy is working on overcoming so much, but when she gets an inside look at these women who love her and her children, she sees the strength they each have. Ms. Bostwick’s symbolism of the fabric really struck a chord for me. She uses humor and emotion to touch the reader’s heart and soul. I encourage you to pick up a copy of this book, maybe two, so you can share with your best girlfriend.
