Roosevelt Bess is retiring after 40 years teaching mathematics in the school system. He loved his students and was always there to encourage and help them. He was not so lucky in love along the way however, and now he is not sure what life holds for him after his retirement.
Roosevelt’s former students send him on a trip to the Bahamas’ to find his “Bahama Mamma”; something he always joked with his students about when they asked about his personal life. The trip will change his life.
While moving forward, Roosevelt looks backward to memories, things, and people who have shaped his life. He also finds a woman with whom he truly feels he can let down the walls around his heart. But can one find love later on in life or is he going to spend his retirement years alone after sacrificing for others all those years?
This was a very hard book to read. Although I enjoyed the storyline it seemed to start off a bit slow but picked up in the middle. I was slightly disappointed with the depth of the characters, they seemed so one dimensional, almost not connected to the story. However if this is the type of story you like, you might think differently than I. This reviewer suggests using your own judgment.
