Mandy is a nurse practitioner studying for her PhD. She longs for a family, but a combination of her long hours, lack of a love life, and a recently diagnosed heart ailment make that unlikely. She is determined to help people prevent heart problems.
Hunter is a doctor once married to both Mandy and his career. A less than ideal childhood and strained relationship with his parents left him with no wish for a family of his own, thus ending his marriage to Mandy. He has never stopped loving her.
The Healing Hearts project is more than just a study for Mandy Dunlap. She is determined to help people prevent heart problems by taking control of their lives before a serious problem. When her mentor is forced to drop out due to health reasons, the last person she expected as a replacement was her ex-husband Hunter, who showed up with a baby in tow. Since their marriage ended because he would not consider having children, Mandy is understandably upset and confused, among all the other emotions swirling in her head.
I enjoyed this quick read. The plot has no dull points and the chemistry between the two main characters is very strong. I was immediately gripped by the plot and enjoyed every page of the story. Little Sophie stole the show of course, but the rekindled romance between the now more mature Hunter and Mandy kept me interested until the very end. I love these medical romances because I learn a little from each one, but this author in particular has a gift for explaining things in layman’s terms, as well as for writing very involving romances.
