Hannah, Duchess of Dumbarton, has been widowed for several years. She was married to a man old enough to be her grandfather and loved him dearly. He saw her as more than just a beautiful woman.

Constantine Huxtable missed being the Earl of Merton by two days. He is darkly handsome thanks to his Greek mother and popular with Society. He spends his time away from London on a country estate populated by the unwanted.

After eleven years of marriage to a man more than fifty years her senior, Hannah is a widow and out of mourning. She has decided that she is going to take a lover and have some fun. She has Constantine Huxtable picked out as her best prospect, but is determined not to fall in love. Constantine takes a mistress every season and never falls in love. Things are about to get complicated.

I really enjoyed this novel. Ms. Balogh has really outdone herself this time. The two main characters are nothing if not unique. On the surface they are typical denizens of Society, but there is so much more to each of them. Hannah is anything but a vapid society matron and Constantine hides great depth of character behind a rakish façade. I enjoyed their story from the first page to the last.
