Penny Nichols is the daughter of an English mother and a French father and grew up in America. She and her fiancé inherited a substantial estate from an elderly aunt. She is worried about whether getting married will change her relationship with Jeremy.
Jeremy Laidley is a lawyer and engaged to Penny. Handsome and intelligent, he adores his fiancée but is puzzled about her reservations about marriage. He has none and takes both her doubts and her family in stride.

Penny and Jeremy are being pressured by both English and French relatives regarding the final plans of their wedding. Tante Leonora has offered to lend the couple a very old and valuable tapestry for the wedding, when and if they finalize the details. When the tapestry is stolen, Penny’s French family implore them to restore it to the family, preferably in time for the wedding.

This is a lovely cozy mystery much in the style of Christie’s Tommy and Tuppence and Hammet‘s Nick and Nora. They are a very charming couple and their adventures are filled with humor and a bit of suspense. The couple’s rather forceful families add to the stress of planning a wedding. The characters are believable and the dialogue is very witty. It is impossible not to love Penny and Jeremy and their colorful families. The plot held my attention and kept me entertained from the first page to the last.
