Annelise Shawcross has been in hiding for several years now. Going by the name Anne Wynter, she has successfully hidden from her dreadful past, but it has begun to come back to haunt her.
Daniel Smythe-Smith, Earl of Winstead, left his home when his life was threatened by an enraged father. Back after three years, he is amazed at all of the changes, especially his cousins' beautiful governess.
There is something about Daniel that compels Anne to be free with him and show him her true nature. But she is also terrified of what might happen as lessons learned from previous employment continue to play in her memories. Daniel is determined to break down the defensive walls that surround Anne's heart. But what can truly become of an employed lady and a man who comes from society's uppercrust?
A Night like This is a wonderful tale that brings a woman running from her past to a man who is returning after years of running. The danger, passion, romance, and comedy that Ms. Quinn put in her novel gives the story that extra pizazz I know this author always seems to have. Watching Anne go from the frightened governess who always seemed on the brink of running turn into a woman determined to fight until her last breath is expelled was a great additive. The details within the storyline are quite rich and fulfilling. I always enjoy a great story by Ms. Quinn, and this one is no different.
