A MIDWEST SUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
Rating: 5 cups
Winona Young says goodbye to Philadelphia and heads to San Francisco, not knowing what awaits her. She makes sure to carry her trunk of books with her as she bids her mother goodbye.
Jebediah Greene still has a broken heart, thanks to a woman. He enjoys reading books, especially Shakespeare, and is intrigued when he meets Winona.
Winona hopes that moving to a new place will be a complete new change for her. After embarking on her trip and learning the stagecoach will be delayed for a few days, she asks Jeb if he would please escort her to San Francisco. Jeb is a scout, an interpreter, tracker, and explorer. He does not think Winona will endure the trip. She assures him there is nothing to worry about. Along the way both discover a blossoming love they never imagined. Unfortunately, Jeb is not the type to settle down. Can Winona change his mind, or is he too set in his ways to accept the love he has found in her arms?
I found this a very comforting read. A Midwest Summer Nights Dream has refreshing characters with splendid dialogue, even from the secondary characters. I felt as if I was along for the adventure, the way Cate Masters tells the story. It was wonderfully done. I adored how Winona and Jeb slowly grew to know each other. Ms. Masters pens a charismatic story that shows plenty of emotion and love throughout the pages. She takes the players and paints them on a canvas with a wonderful landscape, with thrilling moments, in this delicious and inviting read.
