As of right now Ava Cole has officially had the worst day of her life. She has received another death threat, her job at Newswire no longer exists, and her fiancé has just dumped her.
Admitting he works for National Star always makes Cliff Edwards wince a little, but the six figure salary is too good to pass up. His dreams of having his own photography studio are very close to being realized, and that means he will have to stick it out just a little while longer.
The thought of taking a job digging up dirt on celebrities makes Ava physically sick, but she has little choice if she wants to keep paying her bills. Singing star India Wright is her first assignment, and Ava is certain there is more going on than India marrying a Latin playboy. Aruba is the perfect setting for a holiday romance, but Ava is too busy dodging threats and uncovering hidden agendas to give in to her attraction to Cliff. Cliff has to admire Ava’s drive to discover the truth behind India’s impending marriage, but the danger closing in on them has him fearing he may never get the chance for more.
Ava is a woman with a plan, and she does not take curve balls well. Her response to every crisis that comes up seems to range from over the top to lukewarm. It is fun to see her try to deal with people who do not care that she fancies herself a “serious” investigative journalist. Her rigidity is amusing in comparison to her surroundings, and especially so when dealing with her sister and the men in her life.
