His name is Chaz Dominguez and he is a babysitter. His job is to watch the progression of the Newbies as they start their new life, whether they are on their second life or their ninth.
Angelique is one of those Newbies. As she begins her new life, bits and pieces of her memory are returning from her previous lives and some of them make no sense to her.
Neville is determined to get to Angelique because she has something he wants. He does not care how many people he has to kill to get it because it is worth it.
One of the rules of babysitting is not to get overly involved with a Newbie's life because you are only going to be with them for a short period of time. But Chaz soon finds himself in a twisted game of hide and seek as he realizes that Angelique is more than just some woman trying to live as many lives as she can. People are seeking her out, trying to get to the knowledge hidden away in her mind and they will stop at nothing. Chaz wants to stay detached from Angelique and all she is going through but when the evil miscreants strike him where it hurts most, he vows revenge and goes to war against the criminals who are determined to hurt those he loves.
Afterlife: The Resurrection Chronicles is an intense science fiction adventure that keeps you tied in knots although at times I did not quite grasp the storyline and found myself lost. But as the plot thickened and the characters’ agendas started to become clearer, I found myself understanding more of this tale. Ms. Destefano’s talent introduces us to a world where death does not mean the end of life as we know it. The concept is fresh and unique and leaves me a little terrified of the possibilities of our future which tells me that Merrie Destefano has done her job as a writer correctly. This novel is a page-turner, full of grit, iron will, and a determination to survive at any cost.
