Dealing with a gift of empathy that has always been part of who she is, Veronica goes to the meeting of a paranormal society to try to find answers. What she finds is a group of men who drug her and try to use her in a disturbing rite. Rescued by Montgomery Fairfax and betrayed by her manipulative cousin, she finds herself married to a stranger faster than she can believe possible.
Montgomery is at a loss as to how to deal with his feelings of guilt and the new-found responsibility of his Lordship in Scotland. A Virginian by birth, he is in another country trying to find his way when he winds up married to the woman he never planned to rescue. Taking his new and surprising bride to his lands, he is torn between his feelings for her and his own dark past.
With Veronica’s family doing their best to destroy their budding love and other outside distractions, it becomes a test for these two characters to even get to know one another. Will they defy convention and find a passion that only they can quench? Or will the darkness that haunts them swallow up any chance they had at finding happiness together?
From riding in Montgomery’s hot air balloon to looking into a mirror that can tell the future, these characters have many unique and fascinating subplots to deal with beyond the expected romance. Yet the author managed to blend it all into a story of passion and friendship that this reader found hard to resist. With lots of suspense and tenderness set against the beauty of Scotland, this story is a trip back in time that you won’t need a time machine to make.
