Zandia is a planet where woman are kept in traditional roles that focus on their nurturing or sexual abilities. Sui escaped there and has been on earth for several years. Sui finds a niche as a translator for the universal sport of speedball. She develops a sense of independence, feels productive. Sui is interpreting plays for the championship; where she meets Xer. She is fully charmed by Xer but is terrified the consequences could devastate both their lives.

Xer the heir to the Zandian throne; is at the universal speedball championship; where Sui is there as the Zandian translator. When Xer hears Sui’s sensual voice interpreting the plays, Xer is filled with lust and orders Sui to appear at the celebratory party. Xer turns on his charm and ends up making love Sui, and he instantly knows this could not be a good thing.

Sui is enthralled by Xer, but Sui has learned independence and refuses to let Xer’s high handed ways rule her. Sui did not want to return to the way things were on Zandia, where women are brought up in nurturing and not competitive at all. But Xer is heir, and Sui fears any relationship with him, would only mean a return to the way things were. Could Sui convince Xer that things need to change or has lost it all even the man she loves.

There seems to be an analogy between the sport of speedball and the path of the storyline. In the midst of a contest where men dominate and woman are mostly observers, there is one who’s strength and determination are the catalysts to a major change. In the midst of some very hot love scenes, some very human truths are emerging. A woman in love can stay true to what she believes in, the man she loves can accept her for all that she can be, and change can be good. A game where everybody wins.
