Erinn Winters left home at the young age of eighteen. She had to get away from her father who controlled her like he did everything in his life, and what eventually led her mother to commit suicide. That is when Erinn started having visions. From a very wealthy family, Erinn knew that unless she changed her name, she would be found, so she changed her last name to Winters. The only thing Erinn regrets is that she had to leave her baby sister Devon behind. Now ten years later, Erinn is a prominent writer. When Erinn learns her sister has run away from home, she hires a detective to find her, which he does in Wolf River Montana, where her sister is in trouble.
Jase Fortune is divorced and owns the Fortunes Way Ranch in Montana along with his dad. When some cattle are shot on his ranch he has it investigated. Jase runs into Erinn when he is in town, and is immediately attracted to her, but knows that he is not ready for any kind of commitment. But when Erinn begs to use his cabin as a place to write, he is at first reluctant. The cabin has sat empty since his divorce and he did not want to open up old wounds. Erinn manages to talk Jase into it, and if Jase is honest with himself, it was not that hard to do.
Jase only knows that Erinn is a writer, and knows nothing of her sister and the trouble she is in. Jase has his own trouble with his cattle being shot. But as Jase gets to know Erinn; he finds her sister is living with some very bad men. They are the same men that may be responsible for Jase’s cattle loss. Erinn cannot convince her sister to come away with her. Erinn’s visions start up again, and Jase’s best friend goes missing. After a bad accident, Erinn convinces her sister to come to the cabin for a bit. More than either Erinn or Jase knows there is betrayal close by, and if they are not careful, Erinn’s sister could be the next to go missing.
Ms. Gregory created an extraordinary tale filled with secrets, murder, and romance. Wolf River will capture you from the very first page until the last. Great emotional depth is found in this story between not only the hero and heroine, but also the heroine and her sister. Ms. Gregory is well known for her exceptional suspense romance and this is one of the reasons why. I loved how the characters were not perfect and seemed almost like a true story. This is a wonderful book that you will want to read over and over again.
