The ancient standing stones were the focus of the hate and fear of the Newbloods.  The
Skye were forbidden to worship the stones.  The Reformers were everywhere to
enforce the new law even if it meant burning cottages or killing someone.

Bree of Clan Dunstan was Shroud Born.  Even without the ceremonies when she turned
13-years-old, she had the power if she could only figure out how to use it.  Her
Grandfather, Shanis, was her family and support.  Between the two of them, the
Goddess’ instructions must be followed or Blight will arrive and winter will endure.

Our hero, Nathan of Clan Waite, was a warrior born to serve the stone.  He was forced
into one of stone pillars 360 years before the Reformers came.  But he promised that
when the need was truly great, the stone shall not forsake.  With stones being toppled,
ground into pieces, and no sign of the Goddess; can warriors hidden in stone survive to
save the land against overwhelming odds?

The first superlative to describe this story is magnificent.  Sheri McGathy has written a
classic.  Her story is a joy with a hero, romance, fairies, and bad guys wearing black.
Her setting is incredible, an island that gives you a tantalizing peek into a possible
history of the megaliths such as Stonehenge.  Ms. McGathy’s fantasy is more exciting
because of this possible reality.  I loved this book, and I am picky.  Do not miss her
latest winner.  You will want to reread it every year.
