Conar McGregor has been left for dead in the harsh desert by his enemies. He expects to die and welcomes the buzzards to come and pick away at his flesh. The only regret he has is, not seeing his wife Catherine one last time and meeting his unborn child.
But, Conar is saved by Balizar, a leader of the desert people and his daughter Rachel who nurses Conar back to health. As Conar recovers, he is awestruck by Rachel who looks much like his dead love and first wife Liza. He lashes out at Rachel with much hatred because she brings back memories he rather forget. Eventually he comes to terms with his feelings for Rachel and they become friends. Balizar, Rachel and his followers decide to help Conar destroy his enemies and return him to his wife.
Catherine knows in her heat that Conar is alive and prays for his return. But Catherine has been taken by Jaleel Jaborn, the one responsible for Conar’s desert torture. Jaleel is obsessed with Catherine and wants to make her his bride. Time is of the essence because if Conar does not get to Catherin in time, Jaeel will rape her and get rid of their unborn child.
Winddeceiver is my first read in this series by Charlotte Boyett- Compo, and will be my last. I found this story to be a huge disappointment. The writing is on an epic scale but with so many characters coming and going, along with my own personal dislike of Conar, I found myself limping along as I read. Conar can’t decide who he loves and the fact that he has twelve children scattered around because he feels women are just good for sex, rubbed me the wrong way. This is a definite pass.
