Dominique Rue lost her partner, the man she loved, in a shootout. Now she wants to turn in her badge and get away to her new home near the beach. She does not know what she wants to do with her life, she might write a book.

Jericho Wolfe is an English professor and very curious. His mysterious new neighbor is beautiful and prickly and he definitely wants to know her better. The guns in her house give him pause.

When Dominique loses her partner Wesley, she loses her taste for the job and tries to resign. Instead, she takes a leave of absence and moves to the Virginia shore and start over. She meets a new neighbor and starts a new romance, but her last case is not over yet.

This is a well written romance with very good suspense elements. Jericho and Rue are very likable characters with some dark times in their past and a bright looking future. The setting is interesting, a small seaside town, and quiet until the crime follows her from Richmond. The dialogue is well written and flows smoothly, as does the plot. Jericho and Dominique’s romance is rocky at first and they gradually grow to love and trust each other. The subordinate story line of Jericho’s troubled nephew meshes nicely with the main story. I really enjoyed this one.
