Victoria Gardella is a changed woman. She is still Illa Gardella, but her experience with the ancient and powerful vampire Beauregard scarred her forever. The malevolence of his evil is worming its way into her soul, and she fears that she will become the very thing she is bound to destroy.
Max Pesaro is no longer a Venator. He gave up his vis bulla to save Victoria, leaving him nothing more than a normal man. His mortality, as well as his soul, is the very thing that Lilith, queen of the vampires, wishes to control and he is no longer powerful enough to stop her.
Victoria is terrified with the changes she can feel in her body. The uncontrolled anger, heightened night vision, and blood scent are all symptoms of Beauregard’s touch on her soul. She can feel the pull of evil, and it takes every ounce of strength she possesses to fight its hold on her. She must ignore her inner turmoil if she is to save Max from Lilith. He is now vulnerable to the same vampire that once controlled his soul, and Victoria will do everything she can to keep him safe. Max is determined to stay out of Victoria’s life. She needs an heir, and Sebastian is more than willing to be her partner in life, and as much as it galls Max, he knows Sebastian is the better choice. Max and Victoria butt heads at every turn, but it is evident that passion burns just beneath the surface; a passion that could very well put both of their lives in jeopardy.
This is the third installment of The Gardella Vampire Chronicles, and the pressure continues to build. Victoria is growing into her role as the leader of the Venators, and is truly realizing the sacrifices of such a position. The reader is swept up in the lives of each character as they grow and evolve with each story in the series. I highly recommend this series. I also advise reading them in order to maintain continuity of the plot, and the evolution of the characters.
