Kate Holly is a psychologist with a growing practice. Her ex-boyfriend Thad likes to send her his rejects. She is about to divorce the love of her life, Jay. Add to this a crazy mother, aunt, and best friend and it is no surprise that her life is a mess.
Jay Rush really does not want to let Kate go, but her fear that she will become a fireman’s widow like her mother is a pretty big obstacle.
Kate’s bizarre life gets stranger when her mother and aunt plant a questionably religious statue on her lawn. Her divorce, stray dog with puppies, well-meaning but interfering secretary, bizarre patients, and a mysterious threatening phone caller not only complicate but endanger her life.
This is a very entertaining story with vividly bizarre characters and a good premise to go along with it. Kate’s career as a psychologist opens up all sorts of possibilities for mayhem. Her mother and her twin sister, The Junk Sisters, all add to the chaos. This story has a lot going for it and I enjoyed it very much, but sometimes it got to be too much. There are so many characters that not every one gets what they deserve, notably Jay, the soon to be ex. I also had a bit of a hard time with Kate’s attitude towards Jay’s career. As her mother told her, she knew what she was getting into, and I found it cold that she left him before he left the hospital. There were also some important plot points that came out of nowhere. I really liked Mona and her attitude towards life and love, and Mike the stray dog added warmth to the story. Overall, this is a very good story funny and entertaining in parts with a little danger thrown in.
