Lucy is a mutant. In this incarnation, she is one of the scruffy runners that are to be found in great numbers in her overcrowded world. She is one step above being homeless, relying on her present lover until her true bond mate is found.
CJ is the wealthiest and most successful athlete in this world. At least he was, until he was injured. Now all he can think about is the pizza he craves, until the delivery girl walks into his condo.
A transformer searching for her true bond mate, whoever he might be in this incarnation, finds her man. Unfortunately, he either does not know or will not admit that he is one of her kind. Hopefully he will figure it out before the Metro Police do. Once they take you in for testing, you do not return.
This is an interesting, but at times confusing, story. Lucy and Harris are transformers living by their wits on the fringe of society, until the next change. CJ is an unlikely mutant, a famous athlete with a fairly long career. Lucy’s explanation seems a bit too pat, but the characterizations and dialogue make for a great deal. The ending is surprising and very good.
