Detective Elizabeth Andrews is working on serial killer. A psycho they are calling “the ripper” has been killing women and taking organs and all of the victim's blood. Elizabeth’s partner George Loman was put in the hospital from a back injury, so Elizabeth is taking on the case herself until George is back. Elizabeth has her own ghosts and this case is bringing them out, but Elizabeth knew she had to shake her own feelings. They put a criminal psychologist on the case Dr. Samuel Jordan, and for the first time in years, Elizabeth is attracted to a man.
Dr. Samuel Jordan had lost his wife to a maniac years ago, and being a criminal psychologist is one way of helping to get sick people like the ripper off the street. Sam loves the old movies and he feels he is a throw back from a time long gone. Sam is extremely attracted to Elizabeth but knows he could never take the chance to love again. Sam has secrets, and he is sure if Elizabeth ever finds out, she would never want Sam around her again.
As Sam helps Elizabeth with profiling the ripper, they are both fighting their desires. The ripper has now made Elizabeth his prime target, and is playing with her. Elizabeth is trying to fight the fear that the ripper is causing her, and only with the help of Sam does Elizabeth feel truly safe. Sam and Elizabeth are trying to catch this sick monster, but even as they are on the hunt, the ripper is at their every step. Sam knows there is only one way to kill this monster, but to do so he would have to reveal his secrets to Elizabeth. Either way he could lose Elizabeth.
This is an exceptional spine-tingling story. Ms. Saint John does an outstanding job creating the characters, as well as a blood-chilling plot. From the beginning you step into Elizabeth’s shoes, and from there all that you are feeling is Elizabeth’s turmoil through the whole thing. I loved how the author brought back time with some of the places and movies she described. But the romance is not to be forgotten either; the tension and romance between Elizabeth and Sam is spicy enough to fog your glasses. All in all this is one sensational read.
