Kat McKenna is a first grade teacher with a voluptuous body. An overcritical former boyfriend tried to make her hide her curves but she had the confidence to dump him and not hide her beauty.
Howard Paxton suffered horrific abuse as a child but with the help of his adoptive parents overcame his past for the most part. He is now a Lieutenant with the Sugarland Fire Department and has the respect and friendship of his co-workers.
A vicious arsonist has targeted Howard Paxton for some reason. The man murders women in Firehouse 5’s area and sets the buildings on fire, and then sends Howard a souvenir of the crime. Howard has finally found a woman that he can see spending the rest of his life with and worries that she is in danger. Kat has already fallen in love with Howard and worries about his nightmares about his past.
This is a very exciting novel with multilayered and realistic characters and a suspenseful plot. Howard and Kat are likable characters with great chemistry. Kat is the antidote to Howard’s dark past, light to his dark. I like how she is strong enough to stand up to the very large fireman. The scene with the fishing pole is priceless! The other characters are equally well written, making the reader want to know them better, particularly the sad Sean. The killer and his methods are particularly vicious and very original for this genre. I look forward to the next novel in the series; it looks to be as exciting as the first.
